THE PLAIN ENGLISH GUIDE

Know what happens next.

Short explanations for finding something, putting an item on the site and keeping an advert accurate.

01 / FOR BUYERS

Find it. Check it. Ask.

Browsing is open. New registrations are closed, so only existing account holders can send enquiries for now.

Find the right item

Browse 17 main categories and their more specific sections, or search words and model numbers. A main category shows all its sections. Choose a postcode and distance for nearby adverts; More filters can include or exclude a category.

Put results in order

Sort by best match, newest, oldest, nearest, cheapest or recent price drops. Nearest needs a postcode. Free items come first when you choose cheapest.

Check, then ask

Open an advert to see its condition, working status, disclosed faults and latest availability confirmation. These are the seller’s answers; ask about anything unclear before collecting. Sign in and choose Contact seller to start a private conversation about an available advert. You can also contact a member from their profile. Reserved adverts cannot receive new advert enquiries.

02 / FOR SELLERS

From draft to done.

Your overview shows unread messages, hidden adverts, status checks and end dates. Every important deadline and action also appears in Your adverts. The site also sends email reminders to the address on your account.

Make a private draft

Choose Sell, Give away or Swap, then choose a main category and a specific subcategory. If none fits, use Other in this category. Add condition, faults, area, private collection postcode and listing period. Sale adverts also need a price. Add up to eight photos after saving.

Publish and manage

Submit from Your adverts. Ordinary adverts appear automatically; wording that needs a safety check is held. You can edit a private copy, reserve, pause, complete or withdraw an advert from your workspace.

Keep availability current

Confirm an available or reserved advert every 14 days. If you miss the date, it is hidden until you confirm or end it. Confirmation does not extend its chosen listing period. Renew separately near expiry; unrenewed advert data and photos are removed from the live site at six months.

03 / ITEM CONDITION

Show the whole picture.

Condition and working status answer different questions. A scratched item may work perfectly; an immaculate one may not.

New
Unused. Say if the packaging has been opened.
Like new
Used very little, with no noticeable wear.
Good
Used, with light visible wear.
Fair
Clear wear or damage. Read the seller’s explanation.
Poor / for repair
Heavy wear, damage or missing parts. Check what can still be used.
Not tested
The seller cannot confirm that an item with working parts operates as intended. Read what they could not check.
Faults or missing parts
Sellers must answer explicitly. A reported issue appears near the top of the advert in their own words; photos can help show it.
04 / ADVERT STATUS

A quick status key.

Available
Buyers can see the advert and start a private enquiry.
Reserved
Buyers can see it but cannot start a new enquiry.

Fourteen days have passed since the seller confirmed its status. The advert is out of public view until they confirm it or end it.
Paused
The seller has taken the advert out of public view.
Held for safety check
The advert or proposed edit needs an owner review. A previous published version can remain visible while an edit is checked.
Expired
The chosen listing period has ended. The seller can renew an eligible advert before its deletion date.
Sold, swapped, collected or withdrawn
The item is finished or removed and its details and photos are hidden.
